I began reading Farley Mowat’s The Boat who Wouldn’t Float just a few days ago and I’m already looking forward to reading more of his books.The Boat Who Wouldn’t Float is the true misadventures of Mowat and his friends aboard Happy Adventure as they sail the waters that I’m now bound for. Mowat’s journey reminds me of the first expedition I sailed with my father. Farley Mowat is nothing if not persistent. After purchasing the Newfoundland schooner from Hell, badly misnamed as Happy Adventure, he finds he has a boat that leaks constantly, has a compass that doesn't know where magnetic north is, hates to head West, has an engine that works when it feels like it and that is just for starters. Farley McGill Mowat, OC (May 12, 1921 – May 6, 2014) was a Canadian writer and environmentalist.His works were translated into 52 languages, and he sold more than 17 million books. He achieved fame with the publication of his books on the Canadian north, such as People of the Deer (1952) and Never Cry Wolf (1963). The latter, an account of his experiences with wolves in the Arctic, was made Farley Mowat (1921–2014), a famed Canadian writer, was the author of forty-five books, including fiction, history, and environmental works. Several of his books, including Never Cry Wolf, were made into films. Mowat was a winner of the Governor General’s Award for Literature, a recipient of the Order of Canada, and an inductee of the Canadian Walk of Fame. Farley McGill Mowat was born 12 May 1921 in Belleville, ON and died 6 May 2014 in Port Hope, ON. Mowat was an author, environmentalist, activist and one of Canada's most widely read authors. Mowat was famous for such titles as, Farley's Follies (as the author renames this collection in his foreword) is an enchanting encounter with our Northern Neighbors. After the introduction of the sailing librarian father, and his floating boat-mobile, I was thoroughly locked into the magical land of travel via armchair. In between, he talked about Canada, literature, women, mankind, politics, sailing, money and Farley Mowat.
